Shor's Code: Quantum Error Correction

Shor's Code, developed by Peter Shor in 1995, is a quantum error correction code that protects quantum information against both bit-flip and phase-flip errors, which are the two fundamental types of errors in quantum systems.

The Quantum Error Challenge: Quantum states are extremely fragile and vulnerable to decoherence and errors. Classical error correction can't be directly applied to quantum information due to the no-cloning theorem and the fact that measurement disturbs quantum states.

How Shor's Code Works

Encoding: A single logical qubit is encoded across nine physical qubits in a special state.
Error Occurrence: Environmental interactions may cause bit-flip errors (X errors) or phase-flip errors (Z errors) on some qubits.
